Update: Phaneuf has been traded to the Leafs, TSN.ca reports.

Recommendation: Details are forthcoming regarding the players going back to Calgary, but the Leafs’ blue line gets a nice boost with the arrival of the 24-year-old. Phanuef isn’t on pace to be the 50-60 point player he was a couple of seasons ago, but there’s reason to believe that he’s got more campaigns like that to come in the future. In 55 games this season, he’s potted 10 goals and picked up 12 assists with a plus-3 rating. Beyond his offensive ability, Phaneuf brings a very physical presence—compared to Scott Stevens earlier in his career—and should provide a nice long-term boost for his new club.
